Kristine W Headlines Hampton Roads ‘Out in the Park’

It’s been nearly 15 years since residents of Norfolk, Virginia met and incorporated Hampton Roads Pride. In 1997 they set out to “instill pride, celebrate unity and embrace diversity” within their community. Fast forward to 2012 where those residents and more are gearing up to celebrate Saturday August 18th with international dance superstar Kristine W.

James L. Hermansen-Parker, president of Hampton Roads Pride, looks forward to another successful celebration and already has cause to celebrate as this year the Pride celebration has raised more money than ever before. Hampton Roads Pride is more than just a part of the community it serves; it continuously gives back in scholarships for LGBTQ youth, to the community at large  when it faces times of need and local HIV/AIDS charities.

With celebrations happening all week the kickoff to Saturday’s main event starts with the raising of the flag Friday at noon followed by a Block Dance Party from 6 – 10 pm. Saturdays events kick off with local talents such as DJ Bulldog and DJ Nathan Patrick spinning throughout the day. One unique twist to pride parade traditions is the Annual Hampton Roads Pride  Boat Parade. The afternoon continues with entertaiment from local bands Mermaids in the Basement and Ffelt; the festivities culminate with performances from Matt Zarley and dance superstar Kristine W.
