Aspiring drag divas, listen up! Atlanta’s hottest drag competition show wants you! “Dragnificent,” formerly known as the long-running “Dragnique,” is holding open auditions on August 29 at Jungle Nightclub, and the public is invited to cheer the ladies on. The one-night-only auditions will glean the most promising aspirants who will advance to the “Dragnificent” competitions beginning September 19 through October 19. And it’s not just stardom that’ll be waiting in the wings for the winner. Big bucks…$1,000 in cash and prizes, to be exact…will also be yours.
“Jungle is so excited to host the best drag competition in Atlanta,” said Richard Cherskov, managing owner of Jungle. “We had such amazing talent last time around. I can’t wait to see who we discover this time.”
“Dragnificent” is presented by the revived Fantasy Girls. Phoenix produces, with Atlanta diva extraordinaire Nicole Paige Brooks to emcee the proceedings in her inimitable style. The September 19 competition night will also welcome special guest Nina Flowers. Phoenix, Flowers, and “Dragnique” season three winner Edie Cheezburger will serve as judges.
Not only will the drag competition choose the next big Atlanta drag superstar, as always it will be a fundraiser. Each week, tips given to contestants will be donated to a different local charity. The amount of tips donated to each contestant will also help determine the night’s winner. The charity named for the September 19 kickoff night is Lost-n-Found Youth, Inc., an Atlanta-based nonprofit that works to get LGBT youths off the streets and into permanent housing arrangements.
