With summer pride festivals fizzling out, the hot line up for fall pride is coming underway. Atlanta has two sensational prides in the fall: Pure Heat Community Festival and Atlanta Pride.
Pure Heat Community Festival 2012: August 29- September 3
The Pure Heat Community Festival is an annual event put on by the premier party promotions company in the Southeast for the gays, Traxx Girls, Inc. I’ve been attending Traxx Girls parties since 2006. Now that’s loyalty! But it’s worth it. They have the largest lesbian Pride party in the country each year at their notorious Freight Depot party in Underground Atlanta. The entertainment line-ups are always extraordinary featuring the likes of Nicki Minaj and Brandy. This years’ big hitter has not been announced yet but my heart was still happy to hear that super sultry-voiced R&B singer Elle Varner and my most beloved reality star, Joseline Hernandez of Love and Hip Hop ATL will be amongst the Labor Day weekend celebs.
Just remember, the notoriety means things sell out fast. I learned that the hard way last year when I wanted to attend the Booze Cruise on Lake Lanier and couldn’t go. Sold out! The host hotel, Melia, has been sold out for weeks and now bookings for the Loews hotel are open. Their work with The Vision Community Foundation throughout the weekend promotes HIV/AIDS awareness in minority communities and during the festival, dozens of opportunities to learn, commune and get educated and tested are given to attendees.

Pride Festival 2012: October 13-14, 2012
The more renowned Atlanta Pride Festival, which draws crowds of hundreds of thousands, was my first introduction into gay life. I can remember walking into the park and being overwhelmed by the energy and happiness of “my people.” That sensation has certainly not died down with each passing year, except when they were at the Civic Center. Lucky for us they have since returned home to Piedmont Park. Praise Jesus.
The host hotel for Atlanta Pride is W Midtown, one of my favorite Starwood properties in Atlanta. With the sleek design and phenomenal location, you can be minutes away from all the action at Piedmont, the primary location for all festival happenings. There’s a kick off party at The Georgia Aquarium, a car and motorcycle show, the Dyke and Trans marches and of course the super thrilling, Delta sponsored, Pride Parade. I look forward to wandering around the Pride Marketplace and ogling all the hot young bunnies who have flown in to celebrate their colors in the south.
While the entire entertainment schedule is not due until the end of August, Atlanta Pride has announced its partnership with David Atlanta in presenting Erasure’s Andy Bell for a headlining performance Saturday October 13th. For more up to the minute information: http://atlantapride.org
