Out on Film, Atlanta’s LGBTQ film festival, is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary October 4th – 11th. Prior to the big celebration Out on Film Festival Director, Jim Farmer, is excited to announce the opening and closing night films as well as the festival’s centerpiece film.
Kicking off the festival will be Gayby which stars Jenn Harris and Matthew Wilkas best friends from college who are now in their thirties. Single by choice, Jenn spends her days teaching hot yoga and running errands for her boss. Matt suffers from comic-book writer’s block and can’t get over his ex-boyfriend. They decide to fulfill a youthful promise to have a child together… the old fashioned way. Farmer describes the film as “a very funny, warm crowd pleaser, the perfect opening night film.”

Anchoring the film festival as the Saturday night centerpiece is Cloudburst, starring Academy Award winners Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker as a longtime lesbian couple who in order to prevent separation hit the road to Nova Scotia to (finally) get married legally. The film was shown this year as part of the Atlanta Film Festival’s LGBTQ programming but will gain new traction being highlighted by Out on Film. “Cloudbust is an exceptional film with lived-in chemistry between Dukakis and Fricker,” beamed Farmer. “It’s been a sensation around the world. It anchors Out On Film’s annual Super Saturday, which features films from morning to late night, including new classics, a modern day classic, shorts programs and great guests.”

Closing night film presents the sequel to the film Farmer has described as “one of the most successful films in Out on Film history.” BearCity 2: The Proposal is sure to please Atlanta audiences once again with a returning cast cast that includes gay-fave Kathy Najimy, new face Varla Jean Merman (Varla Jean and the Mushroom Heads) and of course the original cast. This will mark the Southern premiere of BearCity 2: The Proposal and will be shown Thursday October 11th.
