Atlanta Pride Announces Indigo Girls’ Amy Ray as Sunday Headliner

Joseph Brownell August 14, 2012 0

In true local fashion one-half of Decatur’s own Indigo Girls will take the Atlanta Pride stage Sunday October 14th. This announcement comes on the heels of last week’s announcement that David Atlanta and Project Q were sponsoring Andy Bell, one-half of the British synth-pop duo Erasure, to headline Saturday’s festivities.

Ray’s musical journey has been marked with both collaborative and solo success. As one-half of the Indigo Girls, Ray found success with Epic Records in the late 80s and early 90s. The Indigo Girls were eventually nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy losing to the lip-synching embarrassment Milli Vanilli. In 2007, the Indigo Girls left major labels behind and returned to their independent roots.

Over the years, Ray started her own record label, Daemon Records and has released four solo studio albums- the most recent 2012′s Lung of Love. Check out “I Didn’t” from Ray’s latest record below.

The Atlanta Pride Committee (APC) announced today that Amy Ray will headline Sunday’s line-up at the 2012 Atlanta Pride Festival.

Sunday’s Coca-Cola stage will feature the performance of the one-of-a-kind entertainer, Amy Ray.  Fans will be treated to one of music’s most recognizable voices when she and her band bring to a close the musical entertainment portion of the festival.

The singer-songwriter and indie-label founder is best known as one-half of the Grammy-winning contemporary folk duo, the Indigo Girls.  Ray has released four solo albums that have been met with critical acclaim. Fans familiar with her only as part of the Indigo Girls will be surprised to learn that Ray’s solo act is loud and raucous by comparison.  Her sultry voice and stomping guitar licks are sure to entertain new, old, duo and solo fans alike.

Atlanta Pride Board Chair, Glen Paul Freedman stated, “We are thrilled to announce Amy Ray as our Sunday headliner!”  Freedman continued, “The 2012 line-up is shaping up to be a great one and with the addition of Amy Ray, our Festival goers are sure to be entertained.”

Immediately following Ray’s performance will be the Festival favorite, the Cabaret Show.  Thecomplete 2012 entertainment line-up is scheduled to be released in September.
