Atlanta Pride Announces Its Honorary Grand Marshals

After last week’s local Grand Marshal announcement, Atlanta Pride named rugby and LGBTQ rights champion, Ben Cohen and Stuart Milk, nephew of famed LGBTQ activist Harvey Milk, as Honorary Grand Marshals for this year’s Pride Parade set to take place Sunday October 14th.

Cohen is no stranger to Atlanta. In the past few months alone Ben Cohen and his StandUP Foundation have been visible across the Atlanta scene. They’ve joined forces with Atlanta Pride and Out on Film for a fundraising screening of Legalize Gay as well as the Atlanta Braves for an ‘Out in the Stands’ night. Plus if you don’t have the 2012 Ben Cohen calendar, you’re missing out.

“I am thrilled to have been named one of the Honorary Grand Marshals for this year’s Atlanta Pride Parade. As the home of the Ben Cohen StandUp Foundation, this city [Atlanta] has special significance, and it will be great to celebrate equality and unity with the community that I consider my home in the States,” Cohen shared about his nomination.

Joining Cohen is Stuart Milk, co-founder and Board President of the Harvey Milk Foundation.  Milk continues to “spread his Uncle’s message of authenticity, example of courage and the power of collaboration onto the global stage supporting local, regional and national human rights struggles on five continents.”

“I am thrilled to have been invited and look forward to the privilege of joining the greater Atlanta region in celebrating [your] 42nd Pride!  Atlanta Pride is such a vital venue to showcase a community’s broad and inclusive leadership and at the same time, provide an important and often life changing event that, at its core says to each young person – you are not only valued, but your authenticity is celebrated here – you are not alone,” Milk noted of the honor.
