“I don’t answer to any network,” exclaimed Kathy Griffin to the late-night crowd at The Fox Theatre Saturday night. “I only answer to you . . . my board of directors,” she continued through the crowd’s loud cheers.
See when it comes to Kathy Griffin no one is safe. Whether you’re a Kardashian, Kim Zolciak, especially Lindsay Lohan or even the President of the United States of America, you’re fair game when it comes to Griffin’s standup.
Prior to taking the stage Saturday night, the redheaded bombshell was introduced by good friend and Atlantan transplant Margaret Cho. Cho warmed up the crowd and introduced a video montage that highlighted some of Griffin’s greatest moments including the infamous ‘I don’t come to your job and knock the dicks out of your mouth’ New Year’s eve faux pas, her standoff with Elizabeth Hasselbeck (who Griffin pulls no punches with when she refers to Hasselbeck as a cunt), and her spot-on parody of Kate Gosselin.
After taking the stage, Griffin summoned Cho back to the stage so all the gays could get their gay moment and snap a picture of the two on stage together. This was far from the only ‘gay moment’ in Griffin’s stage show.
Griffin is an equal opportunist and before launching into the Bravo reality television stars, Lindsay Lohan, Kim Zolciak’s mom and more she did take a moment to apologize to the “8 straight men dragged to the show by their wives or girlfriends.”
During the nearly 2-hour set, Griffin tackled such serious subject matter as the importance of “woo girls” while doing her best Miley Cyrus interpretation and flashing the crowd her red and black panties (to extreme applause), her concern over rappers’ “stage names, and expressed her sympathy for the African-American woman living in Fayetteville who shares Griffin’s name. Griffin even weny as far to share her experiences when she stepped into the woman’s life for a time and attended the “first something or other Baptist ceremony.”
Kathy, never having had a real drink because if “she were any looser she’d fist herself” also touched on her concern over the bath salts epidemic, her desire to try Whippits (albeit too long after Demi Moore popularized them) and T.I.’s trouble with sizzurp, which if you don’t know (and I didn’t) is codeine cough syrup, any flavored soda and a jolly rancher.
The highlight of the show was the breaking news over her recent tweets (which Griffin refers to as twats) from Cher. Griffin shared her desire to find a good donut while in Atlanta in which Cher replied U talking about Donuts? What donuts Cost? I DONT KNOW Kathleen? I Have my Own Personal donut Man! Im fkn Cher! Additionally, Griffin questioned Cher’s knowledge of Twitter when she invited Perez Hilton and Kathy Griffin over for a kiki via twitter asking them to make Guest list? Only cool discrete peeps. Griffin continued telling the crowd that “Cher would make fun of Madonna like she won American Idol last week.” Immediately following the show, you can believe I was following Cher on Twitter.
Griffin is amazingly adept at having her comedy come full-circle and ended the show bringing all the loose ends of a hilarious night together to a satisfied house that rose to its feet in thunderous applause. Bravo, Kathy.
