Okay, how about I’m always interviewing other folks and carrying on but I rarely talk about my ‘whereabouts’. So a long time ago, (like 24 years ago), a giant stork dropped my big ass off in the middle of Harlem right quick where I was raised…no seriously, let me just cut to the chase…or the cake. I’m having a huge ALL STAR birthday bash and I want ALL YOU READERS to come help me blow out those candles honey! There are so many bars in this city that I love, but since my theme this year is “back to my roots”, I chose the bar where I first started out in the drag scene 8 years ago, and that’s none other than Blake’s on the Park. I will never forget how it all panned out. I was fresh from doing my variety shows where I occasionally played female characters, and it just so happens that I walked into Blake’s on a night when one of my good “judy girlfriends” was hosting, Princess Charles. I was happy for that whore and found myself going back every Monday to support her. It was THE place to be on Mondays and always PACKED. Towards the end of her popular show, she ran a contest called “DRAG RACES” (before Ms. RuPaul’s version child). Charles had seen one of my theatre shows and suggested that I enter his contest “you might as well do it girl”. I declined because back then I thought I was too masculine for all that…(shut up).
Then one night, Lady Shabazz caught me upstairs sitting in a corner by myself (yeah, I was probably trying to sober up, but don’t get me lying) and she also said “you should do the contest” because she saw me there every week “kee keeing and high kicking” with “the girls”. I told her my concerns and fears, then she looked at me and simply said “don’t do it for them, do it for you”. That doesn’t sound like a heel of beans on paper, but somehow it stuck. Well apparently, that was all I needed to hear because that very next week I was like “hell yeah, let’s do this”. I entered the contest and won (I looked a hot mess, but I won). I guess you can say I caught the ‘drag bug’ because I kept going back and before you knew it I was on the cast. And just like that damn energizer bunny, I kept doing shows, then more shows, and I kept going and going and going ever since. I’m happy to return to Blakes for my birthday celebration on TUESDAY, JUNE 26TH. My special guests are: Nicole Paige Brooks, Princess Charles, Destiny Brooks, Ej Aviance, Shavonna BisforBarbie Brooks, Jasmine Antoinette, sexy Chandler Bearden, Envy Van Michaels and more! Yep, I’m turning 24….(shut up)…
