RuPaul’s Drag Race Recap: WTF!

Episode 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race starts off with a booty-licious mini challenge that produced 3 winners, Willem, Chad Michaels, and Phi Phi. The three ‘leaders’ picked their team which left poor Madame LaQueer being picked last and whining throughout the process, lest we forget she’s got sensitive ankles. Each team had to divide and conquer with some good ole fashioned tag team rasslin’, Heels (villains) and Faces (the good girls) to face off with their own storyline. The oddest but most effective tag team was Jiggly and Latrice, whose contrasting proportions were enough to get a chuckle. Andre the Giant meets Snooki just about sums it up.

This week’s special guest judges were Rick Fox and John Salley. During the challenge a few contestants fell flat, and some just hit the mat. Chad Michael’s team won, including Chad’s own tag team, “Bitch Kickers“. Chad’s partner in the ring, La Madame, seemed to forget her ankles and hammed it up pro-wrestling style. To quote a fellow viewer watching with me, “Chad Michaels is no joke.” The runway challenge theme was “best girly-girl attire”, and Willem apparently thinks ‘girly’ means dressing like a hooker dressed as a little girl. She was serving Trailer Park Barbie realness. Kenya rocked the Lil’ Kim look while Chad Michaels channeled Nancy Sinatra. Poor DiDa thing thought she looked “Sex in the City”, and was promptly told it was more like “Sex in the Alley”. Sharon Needles used a lighter hand this week and strayed from the ‘Bride of Pinhead’ look of last week to look more like a living doll.

In the end, only two would have to lip sync for their lives, Princess and Lashauwn ‘Miss Bubblegum 1988’ Beyond. I have to say it was over before it began when Lashauwn took off her shoes before the song started. Barefoot queens do not have the C.U.N.T. factor. Period.

Even if she had kept her hooves covered, it wouldn’t have been a contest. Princess nailed the lip syncing, and secured her spot for next week. Lashauwn will have to go above and ‘beyond’ in the future, and was given her ticket home. Sashay away.
